She/Her

How long have you been involved in roller derby, and how did you first hear about the sport?

I joined WARD and started derby at the start of 2021! I watched a few games many years ago when I lived in Queensland and thought it was super cool, but didn't think I was tough enough to play. I learned to skate a couple of years ago and decided I'd finally give derby a shot, and never looked back.

When you're not at derby training, what could we find you doing on a normal day?

Working as a graphic designer, playing nerdy games, or cuddling with my bunnies.

How did you come up with your derby name?

I wanted a funny name and I like rhymes, so I came up with Squeals on Wheels before I even joined. I mostly just go by Squeals now. I tend to make a lot of noise on track so it worked out well!

What's an interesting thing about you that's NOT roller derby related?

I've been playing ukulele for over 10 years! I'm also slowly learning bass.

What is a roller derby goal you are working towards right now?

I'm trying to focus a bit more on jamming again, after spending some time learning how to block. It can be hard, but also rewarding.

Tell us about a tough moment you've overcome in derby, or when you've played a hard games in which you've accomplished some small goals.

I was super proud to play a few jams in the WARD vs Adelaide Rads game at the Derby West state event 'West Coast Invitational' this year! I did some blocking that I was really proud of.

Who do you nominate as our next WARDian of the Month, and why?

Scrappy! She's done a great job getting Club Skate sorted out and she's always a joy to train with.
