Officiating

It takes 14 officials to play a game of roller derby!  These officials include non-skating officials (called "team flamingo" because they wear pink) and skating- referees (called "team zebra" as they wear black and white stripes). 

 Did you know?  Referees can skate on quads or rollerblades!

To become an NSO, you can join our league under our membership category for officials or you may be a skater who wishes to do some volunteering or learn more about the rules.  We provide full training for NSOs during our scrims.  Please contact us if interested.

There are different levels of Referees- from level 1 to level 3, and the HR (head referee) to progress to. Calling penalties in roller derby can be quite academic and sometimes hotly debated between Referees.  Please contact us if interested in Referee training.
